Woman looking through window and asking How Long Can A Long-Distance Relationship Last Without Seeing Each Other?

Before I closed the distance I was in LDR for 4 years and I haven’t met my S.O. until 3 years later.

Yes, it was hard, but it became easy to manage with the right person.

So in this post, I’m going to answer the most common questions that are being asked when starting a long-distance relationship.

Hopefully, you feel at ease after finishing this post.

Let’s get started.

How long can a long-distance relationship last without seeing each other?

The answer to this question solely depends on the couples themselves.

Not everyone will agree on one period.

Some can go into long-distance relationships without seeing each other.

And some need more visits.

In my LDR, it wasn’t after 3 years we managed to meet.

Some can go longer without meeting each other.

So whatever you and your LDR partner decide, it should be what’s best for you.

If you can both manage to spend a long-distance relationship without meeting each other until you’re both ready.

Then go for it.

And, if it’s hard for you to do, then plan accordingly how to make it happen.

The thing is with long-distance relationships, sometimes it’s hard to control things that are outside of you.

Whether that’s when the pandemic hit.

Or, your partner has got a summer intensive course.

While those can affect your long-distance relationship, you both would need to work it out.

Since you both can’t control things like this.

Can a long-distance relationship work without meeting?

Long distance relationship works if both couples decide to make it work.

Most long-distance relationship starts online, and it makes it difficult to connect with the other person over time.

But again, every relationship is different.

What could work for one couple, won’t work for another couple.

It’s a fact you have to face.

I believe that any relationship can work, whether that’s long-distance or any other relationship.

As long as both couples invest in the relationship.

So to answer the question of whether a long-distance relationship can work without meeting, only depends on how that sounds for you and your long-distance partner.

How long should you go without seeing your long-distance boyfriend?

If you have met the person before you decide to be in a long-distance and already have a connection.

It’s easier to go long without seeing your long-distance boyfriend.

However, if you met online, that’s a different story.

From my long-distance relationship experience, it was okay to not see each other for the first 3 years.

Since we met before, we had a long-distance relationship.

Woman cover her eyes representing not seeing her long-distance for long now.

There is no should or shouldn’t when it comes to when one should go without seeing your long-distance partner.

If you feel 6 months is too long, then it is too long.

Decide whatever you want in this relationship.

As I mentioned, not every long-distance couple is the same.

Do what’s best for you.

How to survive a long-distance relationship without seeing each other?

Communication is crucial when it’s hard to meet your S.O. at the moment.

You need to have trust in the other person.

If you don’t have the communication and the trust in the relationship, then it’s hard to say you’ll survive that long.

Remember, it’s not a marathon.

It’s a relationship like any other relationship out there, it requires patience, communication, and trust.

If for any reason you can’t see your long-distance partner, you have to be willing to make it work.

Whether that’s communicating more effectively, doing more online long-distance dates, or connecting deeper through question games

It doesn’t matter what you choose, as long as you try to make it work.

Many long-distance relationships are dead because one person doesn’t know how to deal with the relationship from afar.

This is why, it’s best to talk about it before you go into a long-distance relationship.

Can Long-Distance Relationships Last?

Short answer, yes.

Long answer, not most long-distance relationships work.

In fact, most long-distance relationships fail

Whether that’s for communication problems, not handling the distance, or even cheating.

These are harsh facts that can happen in long-distance relationships

But if you want to know if your long-distance relationship will last, then look out for these signs.

Signs your long-distance relationship will last

1. You know how to communicate

This is the first sign you need to pay attention to if you want your long-distance relationship to work out.

As I always mention, without proper communication, your long-distance relationship won’t last.

It doesn’t matter what kind of social app you use, as long as you’re able to communicate effectively.

2. You have trust

Trust is part of any healthy relationship.

While in a long-distance relationship it requires more work, still the concept of trust is there.

Building trust in a relationship takes time and patience.

If it’s hard for you to trust your long-distance partner while they’re away, it’ll ruin your relationship.

Learn what are your triggers and how to handle them.

If it’s hard for you to trust your long-distance partner when they’re away, talk to them about it.

And most importantly, seek help if you need it.

The one thing I keep in mind, if they want to cheat, they’ll cheat.

And this couldn’t be further from the truth.

So try not to control it.

3. You ask about each other’s days

If you care about each other, you’ll want to know what is going on in their day.

It doesn’t matter if you know that their day is always the same.

You’re away from each other, you need to build that connection together.

Always make sure to ask them about their day, and if anything is bothering them.

It’s a sign that definitely can make your long-distance relationship last.

4. You know how to solve conflicts

Any relationship will have conflicts.

There is no doubt about that.

But in order for that relationship to last, you need to solve any conflicts that arrive.

Whether that’s talking about it.

Doing something about it.

As long as you know how to solve any conflict or at least try, your long-distance relationship will last.

5. Distance is not the issue

Labeling sometimes puts everything in a box.

This is why changing perspective is the key to making anything work.

If you take the opportunity to use long-distance as a chance to grow away from each other and not far off from each other, it’ll change your relationship for the better.

I used the time while we were long-distance to grow and invest in myself.

That’s the perspective I had.

I didn’t blame the circumstances or keep reminding myself how hard it was.

Yes, it’s hard, but shifting your perspective is the key.

It’s safe to say that this has been a sign that our long-distance relationship will last.

And indeed it did.

6. You’re happy to grow

Following the previous point.

Taking the time to focus on what’s being important, will definitely help your relationship over time.

Sometimes growing makes you a better partner in the relationship.

You learn a lot about yourself, and you build different perspectives over time.

And you’ll definitely be tested.

Whether that’s your patience or your anger.

7. Your family knows about each other

This is different for every couple.

It depends on whether your family is open to the idea of dating.

Or, you have a standard that any personal relationship stays between you two.

This is a huge step to take, especially if your family doesn’t support the idea.

But a sign that your long-distance relationship will last, is if your family knows about the other person.

8. You send gifts to each other

Not only does receiving gifts make you think of your partner, but it says a lot about how your partner cares about you.

When sending gifts to each other, it makes your relationship stronger.

It doesn’t matter what kind of gift it is, as long as you both remind each other that not even the distance can stop you from celebrating together.

9. You’re creative with the relationship

When you’re away from each other, it makes you think of different ways to connect deeper or to make it work.

You can discover a lot about your long-distance partner if it weren’t for the distance.

Creativity here means you think of ideas outside the box and find interesting ideas to try together.

You both put in the effort to make the relationship work.

This is a huge sign your long-distance relationship will last.

Woman crying cause her long distance relationship is failing

What causes long distance relationships to fail?

A long-distance relationship can fail if one partner decides to quit.

If you both put in the effort to make the relationship work, it will work.

You can make the effort and do everything to save it and still fail.

And that’s okay.

While most long-distance relationship fails because of many reasons, there is one reason that could fail the relationship.

It’s going for days or even weeks without talking.

I have seen many times on Facebook groups from long-distance relationship couples, how this is a common issue.

If you or your partner disappears or stops talking, no matter what the reason.

The relationship is failing.

Unless the only reason you disappeared is that you’re in the hospital.

There is no reason to continue the relationship.

Conclusion

I hope that this post answers any questions you may have regarding long-distance relationships.

Yes, it can be hard to maintain a long-distance relationship.

Especially if you don’t know how long your long-distance relationship lasts without seeing each other.

But hopefully, these questions shed some light and help you to figure out if a long-distance relationship is right for you.
